9.2.4 Interacting with Managed Objects
This section describes how the Web Console maps the MBean operations to the web interface.
The first screen that the user will see when clicking on a link to an MBean object will display the following information about
the MBean:
MBean Name
Java class name
Brief description
MBean attributes
MBean operations
Managed Attributes
Descriptions of each of the attributes can be viewed by clicking on the name of the attribute. If the value of the attribute is a
simple type, it will be displayed in the value column. If the value is more complex, it can be viewed by clicking on the link in
this column. Note that in some cases, attributes may need to be accessed via their get and set operations.
Some MBean attributes can be modified directly, these will have "RW" (read-write) in the Access column. If an attribute has
read-write access, the value can be changed simply by entering the new value and pressing the "apply attribute changes" button.
Managed Operations
Information about each of the operations can be seen by clicking either on the “i
link (if the operation is available), or the name
of the operation itself (if the operation is unavailable). Operations are invoked by filling in the fields next to the operation and
clicking the button with the name of the operation.
When an operation is invoked, a page containing the outcome of the operation is displayed. To return to the MBean details
screen, the user can either press the browser’s "back" button or use the navigation links at the top of the screen. Note that in
some cases the page may need to be refreshed to reflect the results of the operation.
9.3 Deployment Architecture
This section briefly describes the architecture of the Web Console and discusses different deployment scenarios.
9.3.1 Embedded Web Console
When the Rhino SLEE is first installed, the Web Console is configured to run in the Jetty servlet container, and is launched by
an m-let in the same virtual machine as Rhino (this is the "embedded" Jetty scenario).
The classes required to run the Web Console are packaged in a number of different libraries, the full set of which can be
seen in the classpath section of the m-let entry in
$RHINO_HOME/etc/defaults/config/permachine-mlet.conf
. Here is a
summary:
The Web Console JMX loader (
web-console-jmx.jar
) contains the management bean for the Web Console, and a few
extensions to the Jetty servlet container to integrate logging, security, etc.
