The Federated Service Creation Environment allows a SLEE component or application to be fully tested under scenarios similar
to the actual deployment environment. The same service or resource adaptors binaries can be tested from pre-production staging
all the way through to final production deployment.
The process of integrating services and resource adaptors with the network critical physical infrastructure can be executed with
a high level of confidence allowing effort to be concentrated on other relevant aspects of the production integration exercise.
2.5 Functional Testing
Once source code starts being produced, having a set of repeatable functional unit tests provides a massive benefit to the software
development life-cycle.
Functional unit tests reflect a sequence of inputs that validate whether or not the service is producing appropriate output.
The Rhino SLEE platform includes several tools that are able to be used when building functional tests. These are:
CAP V2 Switch Simulator.
ETSI INAP CS-1 Switch Simulator.
SMSC simulator that generates SMPP messages.
MM7 R/S simulator that generates MM7 messages.
HLR simulator that responds to SCP queries via MAP v3.
These tools allow various scenarios to be simulated. The switch simulators are capable of producing either originating or ter-
minating BCSMs (Basic Call State Machines). The switch simulators can test calls that are answered at either end, abandoned,
invalid and so forth.
Developers at Open Cloud make use of the JUnit unit testing framework (
http://www.junit.org
) to run batches of tests.
2.6 Performance Testing
Running repeatable performance tests during key stages of the SDLC can provide valuable information regarding the effective-
ness of a component, service, or resource adaptor. Performance tests run several sequences of inputs repeatedly and collect
various performance metrics and statistics over the duration of the tests.
Performance testing using the Rhino platform is supported by the load generation component. The load generation component
has the following capabilities:
Dynamically configurable load
Statistics reporting
Real-time latency graphs
A plug-in architecture, including plug-ins for:
CAP v2 Switch Simulator
ETSI INAP CS-1 Switch Simulator
SMSC simulator
MM7 simulator
