Chapter 2
The Rhino SLEE Platform
2.1 Introduction
The Open Cloud Rhino SLEE is a suite of servers, resource adaptors, tools, and examples that collectively support the develop-
ment and deployment of carrier-grade services in Java. At the core of the platform is the Rhino SLEE, a fault-tolerant, carrier
grade implementation of the JAIN SLEE 1.0 specification.
It supports rapid integration with external systems and protocol stacks and may be tuned to meet the most demanding perfor-
mance and fault tolerant requirements.
In addition, a production installation of Rhino has a carrier-grade fault-tolerant infrastructure that provides continuous avail-
ability, service logic execution and on-line management even during network outages, hardware failure, software failure and
maintenance operations.
Elements of the platform can be organised into the following categories as shown in Figure 2.1:
• Service Logic Execution Environment (SLEE).
